My dad is just finishing the restoration on his 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone. It basically looks like the car above, but that isn't his. Anyway, I've entered us in the Hotrod Power Tour next summer. Runs from Charlotte (3 hours from my house) to the Wisconsin Dells (3 hours from his house). I'm thinking him, I and my 6 year old son hanging out with cool cars for a week. Should be fun. Just need to twist his arm and make him take the time off as he owns his own business and can be twitchy about such things. I figure if he ends up finding a way out of the deal I can polish up the Evo and take that.

NO WAY, two friends of my father have that exact same car. '64 Comet Cyclone in Bright Red.

Wow! There aren't that many around. My dad has had his since high school. I rode around in it was a wee one. He even found some of my Hot Wheels cars under the back seat during the restoration.

Yeah, they are not common. My dad's friends have had theirs for 20 and 15 years. the younger one was the other one's parts car.

I did HRPT '11 & '12. Great time, but my situation was different - hanging out with a car club. We had 6 cars in 2011 and 14 in 2012. Basically a 7 day drunk with little sleep; I needed three days after to recover. But I had a ball and made several new friends. The cars are fantastic and there's always a couple hundred new ones to see at every stop.

I can see how this could be a bonding experience for your three generations. Its a lot of driving and a lot of sitting around. Wash the car, drive all morning, wash the car, parking lot car show all afternoon, evenings watch hotel lot hooning, a little sleep and get up and do it again. To get the most of the experience, I'd recommend you become a Bangshifter - they enjoy a more family oriented, old school hot rod crowd... and in case something should happen to your car they are always more than willing to help out.
